Senior Cost Estimating Engineer

One of our prestigious clients “Auto OEM” Is looking for “Senior Cost Estimating Engineer”

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 10-22 yearsrelevant experience in automotive, industrial equipment motors/ electronics, commercial, estimating, manufacturing, product design / engineering, or purchasing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related / relevant field of study
  • A Graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA), Technical Management, or Engineering (preferred)
  • Manufacturing experience in an automotive setting (OEM, tier 1 or tier 2 environment) (preferred)
  • Development of supplier component quotes to OEM’s (preferred).
  • A high degree of agility to support a dynamic and rapid-pace environment
  • A passion for understanding emerging technologies and subsequent key cost drivers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and complexity
  • Ability to drive results and provide cost guidance in what can be an ambiguous environment
  • Ability to lead change, resolve conflicts, and influence without direct authority
  • Analytical ability to solve problems that are unique and sometimes complex
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with global team members and cross functional peers
  • Understanding of non-recurring and manufacturing labour processes and material utilization.
  • Strong knowledge in part production cycle times, material utilization and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering background
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Familiar with product structure, model viewing & measurements.
  • Ability to design and implement new cost reports.
  • Able to communicate and present cost data information to senior level leadership.
  • MS Excel-Pivot Tables, Lookups
  • Ability to assimilate a large amount of cost data and clearly condense / communicate information to Customers during meetings/ work with project engineers to summarize in an efficient way
  • Ability to acquire a travel visa and travel internationally for 3-4 weeks a year

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience reading engineering drawings
  • Experience with Business Warehouse, Team Centre & Catia V5.
  • Understanding of labor & overhead rates, standard-to-actual ratios, & material factors.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, specifically macros
  • Familiar with automotive manufacturing product flow, work instructions and tool families
  • Strong technical expertise in electronics, assembly, machining, and related categories required.
  • Create ground up Cost Estimates for PCBA, invertors, electric motors, modules, sensors etc.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or ACE
  • Working knowledge of statistical regression analysis
  • Familiar with automotive electronics manufacturing product flow
  • An understanding of expected manufacturing cost factors such as Direct & Indirect Costs such as material, labor, burden, as well as commercial items such as SG&A and profit is a plus (preferred). Good understanding of impact of production volume, tooling, and ED&T and modelling them into should cost estimations is highly valuable.
  • A strong knowledge of Electronics manufacturing processes, technologies, and principles, including but not limited to Surface Mount Technology, Electronics Module Assembly (Sealed and Unsealed), Die casting, Stamping, plastic injection molding, and subcomponent assembly. Examples of systems and parts: Electric Drive Units – E-Motors, Inverters, Gate Driver Boards, IGBT’s, E-Axles, and a multitude of module assemblies.
  • Sound techno commercial knowledge on latest E&E trends in automobile such as connected vehicles, Infotainment, HUD, ADAS, domain controllers, autonomous driving, SVS, Artificial intelligence with understanding on cost drivers
  • Ability to estimate engineering effort required in Electronics hardware & software development to work out on development cost.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include utilizing available hardware, engineering drawings and specifications, and process flow layouts to develop component cost estimates. The Cost Estimating Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of theoretical mass production cost models, for a variety of powertrain-type components, in transportation and energy generation applications. In addition, they are responsible for assisting in the research and development of manufacturing overhead rates, for a variety of manufacturing operations and processes, ensuring the generated cost models are representative of marketplace data.

 Qualifications/Responsibilities/Tasks:

Job Description Summary •Responsible for understanding the elements that compose the cost of a product and build a Should Cost Model. Implement, maintain and update associated cost analysis with real time quotes or valid technical data (as applicable).

  • Responsible for the development and long-term ownership of cost estimating models for various products/processes and associated tooling investment(s).
  • Support Engineering and Purchasing in evaluating design proposals and supplier quotations
  • Support part level costing for competitor vehicle teardown exercises for benchmarking purposes.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities along with process efficiency improvements.
  • Organize and record domestic and international market studies for various commodities to identify market trends for material costs.
